We pack up camp by 8:30 so we can hit the road and get to San Fran early enough to go to the zoo before the hotel. The kids petitioned to skip Sequoia NP and do the zoo instead. We say yes because we want happy teens and after 2 weeks of traveling the last thing our nerves can take are grumpy teens.
We head up the highway a little ways in search of a large market and cheap diesel. In no time we find both. We load up with ice and lunch provisions, but then we get distracted by cheap liquor!
We load up all we think we can fit in the truck and head on our way.
Random sighting: cute old couple in a double rascal cruzin' down the sidewalk.
It was a quiet ride all the way to the city while the kids individually tech-ed out in the back seat.
Bay Bridge and a cool view of the city.
We make it to the zoo with just 2 hours to explore.
Here are our favorites...
Cindi- koala
Joani- gorilla
Maddy- kangaroo
Gracie- snow leopard
Skylar- giraffe
We finish up at the zoo and make our way to Fisherman's Wharf by weaving through the city on a sort of architecture tour. Maddy was thrilled to see some of the city this way.
We decided to share a room at this Travel Lodge to save some money, but things are tight in this room.
Next stop, China Town! We walked 12 blocks to get some if the best Chinese food in San Francisco.
China town was all for Gracie so after popping into a few shops and hitting the Chinese market for candy we head back to the room.
On the way we stop at an Italian bakery for cheese cake, cannoli, and gelato. Yummy!
My favorite thing today: the weather being cool enough to wear a sweatshirt!
I also loved seeing Skylar try something new at the Chinese restaurant. Seafood noodle soup.
