Day 10: Destination unknown, 379 miles

We got a slow start this morning because we figured we had plenty of time to get to today's destination, the Grand Canyon. We head out on Route 66 from Flagstaff a little earlier than we hoped and by the time we get to the gas station we realize we are screwed! What we thought was going to be a 2 hour drive turns into a 4+ hour drive. We start making adjustments and the cuss words fly.

Because time is tight lunch is in the truck and literally on the fly.
"I am the provider of this family!"-Maddy

"I hope our pilot is a retired Vietnam vet with lots of experience."-Cindi
He wasn't

We head down into the canyon on a short helicopter ride to the bottom.

Then we hike down to the Colorado river for a ride down the river to view the canyon from there.
Then back into the copter to get out of the canyon.

"That was awesome!"-Skylar
"That was the best!-Maddy

One of the helicopter ground crew saw Gracie's Pokemon shirt and went nuts. He had to break out his goods to show her. They had a bonding moment.

We head to eagle point to look over from the edge instead of the inside.
Can you see why it's called Eagle Point?

At Guano point we grab a bite to eat and Skylar runs into a tree full of his brethren, the raven.

We head off the reservation (this section of the canyon is on Hualapai Indian land) still not sure where we will stay tonight. We had planned to stay in Kingman, AZ, but that is 30+ miles in the wrong direction from our next destination.

We see loads and loads of Joshua trees on our way back to the highway.

Before long we realize we can make it to Vegas a day early in under 2 hours so we start to work on finding a cheap room. The classic Riviera ends up being the winner.
A late night McD's stop to fight off hunger (happens to be right across the street).
Skylar says: Viva McDonald's! And so does the sign!

My favorite thing today: The Helicopter ride into the Canyon of course!
